Improving parents' experience by 40% with usability-focused redesign
Redesign a joyful digital experience for parents that reflects a warm, playful learning environment for children.

Overview
Unique Unicorns is a high-quality, long day care centre for kindergarten located in Townsville, Australia.
Concerns
The original website was outdated, with a busy color scheme, poor readability, scattered information, and difficult navigation, making it visually unappealing for both parents and children.
Purpose of redesign
To create a visually appealing, engaging website by organizing information and restructuring the layout to reflect a warm, playful learning environment for children and families.
After redesign (Home Page)
Use logo shape as metaphor to reflect brand consistency.
For showcasing personal profiles, I use logo shape or related circular shapes to create a visual cue, helping the audience instantly recognize that these profiles belong to Unique Unicorns.

About
Reorganize the information structure in one place.
In the previous design, information was scattered across the website, making it difficult for users to find resources or download materials.
I created a structured services navigation menu that consolidates all education-related information into a single dropdown improving overall clarity and usability.

Make the fee structure transparent with clear, expanded information for parents.
Streamlined access by placing all downloadable forms in one clear section.

Specialized Design

Improve UX writing for menu label.
Reframed “Reviews” as “Parents' Voices” for a warmer, personal touch.

Split parent feedback into two tabs: online reviews and handwritten notes.
Since there were two types of testimonials: digital text on the website and hand-written cards on a physical review board, I separated parent voices into two distinct sections with menu tabs for easy navigation.

Refresh the look of digital message board.
Design testimonial cards with colorful tones and clear typographic hierarchy.

Create physical wall vibes, digital wooden board design.
Design a wooden-style noticeboard to showcase handwritten parent messages, creating the feeling of reading voices in a real space.

Turned cluttered photo galleries into two clear, aligned sections for events and activities.
Redesign the children’s activity into two sections: Special Events and Gallery with consistent layouts, aligned images, and organized content for clarity.

What I have learned from this project
Organizing information is just as important as refreshing visuals.
I discovered that users often got lost while searching for information, and the absence of transparent pricing led to drop-offs.
Balance playfulness with professionalism.
I learned that designing for a childcare school website should be playful enough to be user-friendly and welcoming, yet professional enough to build trust in education.
Power of UX writing.
Choosing the right words that connect with brand personality can increase user engagement, even through small changes. In my case, shifting ‘Reviews’ to ‘Parents’ Voice’ built trust and made the experience feel more personal.
Metaphor strengthens brand identity.
I realized that including metaphor in the design ensures the symbol carries meaning beyond visuals, building long-term identity.
Next Steps
What I will do for future steps
Add a virtual school environment to enrich the experience.
Be sure to test accessibility for all types of families.
